Walleyes biting on shiners, try in 35 feet and also on the weedlines. Shore fishermen are catching pike in the channels on suckers. There is also a good late day walleye bite in the channels. This story requires some comment from “The Admiral.” Once the Pillsbury Estate is sold, it could very well be cut up into pieces for development. To be blunt, those effing greedy ass developers. I can’t stand ‘em. They’ve destroyed all but a very small part of Lake Minnetonka’s history, and could very well do it again. It’s not like we need more people, more houses, and more boats out here. God almighty, there’s too many “new” people that really don’t belong out here.
In photos, the former Pillsbury estate on Lake Minnetonka’s Brackett’s Point looks like a fairy-tale house in a paradise of water and woods.
Once the summer residence of one of the state’s best-known families, the 40,000-square-foot brick and stone manor house and its 13-acre site are for sale by sealed bids that are due Dec. 9. The property, known as Southways, could be sold intact or divided into five waterfront lots.
The possible breakup of one of the great properties on Lake Minnetonka would be only the latest loss on the lake, which is getting crowded with more homes on smaller lots. Three years ago, 70 acres of the nearby Sweatt estate, owned by one of the families that founded Honeywell, was sold for a development that will include 47 new homes.
The loss of some of the big estates and the possible division of Southways saddens Bette Jones Hammel, author of the new book “Legendary Homes of Lake Minnetonka.” Full Story

Fall is quickly coming to an end in Minnesota. Most of the leaves have fallen off the trees and the cool weather is foreshadowing the brisk winter months to come. I was able to squeeze in one last fall activity before the end of the season: my annual trip to Homestead Apple Orchard in Maple Plain, Minnesota. Fall just wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the apple orchard to pick my own apples off of the trees. Full Story
